Grok conversation:

Present all the professional and personal controversies that Neil deGrasse Tyson has been involved in (point-by-point).

Quotes from the conversation:

“Other errors include stating the James Webb Space Telescope orbits in Earth's shadow (it doesn't) and mishandling quantum mechanics or relativity in talks. In 2014, he faced plagiarism accusations for uncredited quotes from sources like George W. Bush and President Kennedy in his book Astrophysics for People in a Hurry; he apologized, calling it an oversight.”

“He's accused of hypocrisy for critiquing others' science while erring himself, …”

I bet PSYOP officer Susan Gough sat behind Kosloski.

I try not to get too conspiratorial about UAP, but this photo of DoD spokesperson Susan Gough watching AARO director Jon Kosloski at the Senate hearing is really something. Her background includes military deception and psychological operations.

Sorry, no great insight from me, but my two cents nonetheless.

Is that intuitive disdain for human curiosity, or is it the canned response of a paid mouthpiece? Anyone who knows anything about science knows that the possibilities are endless, and Tyson surely gets it. Like Sagan and others, Tyson is likely following a script.

As for Vance's claims, you can be sure it's to gather an audience that will ultimately be disappointed to hear that there's nothing to see.

The SCIF Flu is an interesting development. Elizondo says that the meeting was a last minute decision and he couldn't make it. Apparently the players wanted to be there together, so they all bailed. The reaction on social media was heavily anti-Elizondo, which was maybe the objective.

The Skinwalker Ranch story is pretty fascinating, but when there's a buck to be made there's good reason for skepticism. The paint drop idea is most worthy!

I don't think I was that passed out guy. Don't remember much.

OK, John, the microphone's all yours now. But I gotta warn ya, it's a tough crowd. They strike matches on their teeth.

Dear Mr. Cox & Friends,

I have a little bit of a different take on the Skinwalker Ranch "wormhole." I don't think Travis and his sausage party are ever going to get to the bottom of it either- but not because it's about perpetuating a TV show, although I'm sure that's a bonus. I think they are encountering the AI firewall of advanced post-Singularity technology. As Google director of engineering Ray Kurzweil has written- if such a civilization doesn't want primitives like us to discover it, we won't. I'm reminded of that every time their batteries mysteriously drain, their censors fail, they get nonsensical results, etc. Unless it's all a reality TV show hoax, which I think is less likely than the fake Moon-landing conspiracies, but who knows? I think if they did your red paint thing, somehow the paint would fall up. Maybe the evangelicals would take that as some sort of rapture event? That'd be funny :)

If what we're dealing with is NHI, then your firewall theory makes perfect sense. The question then becomes why are "they" allowing us to record data of any kind, nonsensical or otherwise? Maybe there's a touch of sadism at play, like severing the legs of ants on one side to watch them go 'round in endless circles?

Steve S. Lazarus's avatar

If it’s NHI/AI then the "why" questions are next-to-impossible to answer, although one possibility would be the 'Leaky Embargo' theory (Alfred Webre, Carter administration) that UFO events are staged in order to stimulate our development, which implies some sort of relationship.

There is no reason (other than the Cosmic brother belief) that an alien civilization would take an interest in a totally alien/lesser evolved life form, such as us- unless it had some vested interest, like say, it/they implanted this civilization here on Earth.

Maybe I’m a Pollyanna, but I don’t see the sadistic angle. So beings with god-like technology get their kicks by effing with cavemen like us? I mean, they not only wouldn’t be space brothers- they’d be space children, or maybe space juvenile delinquents. Beavis and Butthead with zero-point, antigravity technology? I just don't see it. That doesn’t mean there can’t be a twisted sister out there somewhere- you can never prove there isn’t a pink unicorn somewhere in the Universe. SSL

As a kid in the 70's, I was immediately fascinated with UFO accounts because of the possibilities they implied. From my (psychological) point of view, I'd have to discount every apparently credible source before considering that humanity might be fated to remain on Earth until the sun dies, taking the Earth with it. (Extrapolating from past scientific advances, one can't help but independently infer that we'll travel to the stars one day.)

But that's my assessment. And I wasn't initially interested in human psychology, including my own.

Roughly 40 years on, my assessment hasn't really changed except that the possibilities seem to have broadened and I'm now fascinated with the human mind. For instance, there's nothing in science to suggest that the concept of free will truly exists; not if one considers that our thoughts come from a neurological one-arm-bandit, subject to genetic inheritance, that can be conditioned by its environment which includes other humans. Do we even have a choice as to when we decide to think about something?

The logical conclusion is that 'believers', biased debunkers and everyone in between are not truly accountable for their thoughts (or behaviour) and are simply ripples in a cellular automaton (like Conway's Game of Life); nothing but a pretty pattern filling the void.

We know that simple AI's can generate their own delusions. Perhaps that's the fate of all intelligences, everywhere. Not a happy thought. Perhaps millions of alien civilisations all suffer from the same delusion that they've been visited by others. Or maybe they have been. We don't actually know.

What we do know is that the statistical probability of our universe existing appears to be ridiculously, vanishingly small (aside from a small issue of cause-and-effect). There could be a clue in there somewhere.

OK, now you're freaking me out.

Tyson, Sagan, Menzel, Klass—the same essential role filled by different characters, much like Mr. Spock and Data. The Robertson panel wrote the basic script and stage directions—the debunking “Bible.” Various producers and directors have come and gone, as have different show runners. Yet, through it all there has been a remarkable continuity and overall consistency in the series.

I suspect the folks you mentioned here would need no financial incentive to promote blind anthropocentrism. Self-diminishment isn't something our species actively seeks.

Most of what that windbag Tyson says about UFOs is just BS. Nothing scientific and nothing of benefit to anyone. In regards to Skinwalker Ranch series, they have gone from a portal in the sky above the ranch to now digging into the mesa for a huge metallic object (they say) is buried there for some reason. Will they ever complete anything and come up with some answers? Probably not or the series might end! On a more substantial note, the podcast Weaponized had UFO researcher Richard Beckwith on and his comments were fascinating and I would say somewhat dark when it comes to who and what the 'gatekeepers' are doing and their possible agenda. Essentially he is saying that the government giveth but are not able to receive it back. He also seems to have not much faith in the usefulness or effectiveness of the UAP congressional hearings similar to your comical thoughts. But then all of a sudden he says he is 'optimistic'? In any case, I think he does outline the various issues at hand in dealing with UFO secrecy and its possible outcomes. IMO this subject coupled with what is now going on with AI development should be of concern to all humans on the planet. However just how many persons are listening thru the noise that Donald Duck produces by the hour is anyone's guess. Based on Richard Beckwith's assessment Mrs. Luna and a few others in Congress have little to no chance of breaking down the wall of UFO/UAP secrecy and getting to the goodies. There is always hope but until the President orders the military to raid and confiscate the materials held at some of the defense contractors SAP operations I am not optimistic on what the hearings can actually do.

Billy Cox's avatar

If 47 locates this stuff, he won't trust defense contractors with it. It'll wind up at Mar-a-Lago, guarded by ICE, and what happens after that will make Tony Montana's "Scarface" finale look like Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.

Nsurround's avatar

IMO it is the 'Technologist' who are now actually running this country behind the scenes, not Donald Duck or Congress. Those two are only widow dressing and diversions for the masses. Technologist power over social media, AI and technology derived from NHI is becoming supreme but carefully manipulated so as to inoculate the masses without them even knowing it. I would love to be proven wrong but that is how I see the future. Who is going to stop them?

Billy Cox's avatar

What would be the ultimate objective of this "technologist" game plan? To accomplish what? Is it all about wealth and control? What end might control serve?

Nsurround's avatar

Those questions you asked have been asked about humans forever in all types of context besides my 'technologists' idea. Why are we trying to replicate ourselves based on AI? Why do we follow self destructive leaders who we should know are not in our best interest? The list goes on and on. There maybe no game plan other than wealth and control in its basic form. However the idea of a breakaway civilization heading into the future also could be part of an overall concept or plan. In the end there maybe no answer at all other than its part of what it is to be a human. I use the term 'Technologists' not necessarily to describe all who participate in advancing technology but the ones or groups who are steering those technologies and applying them as they see fit for their own ends. Our political system has never done well in attempting to control or regulate these entities whether secret or not.
